The thing is Back to the Future is set in 1953, so the guitar McFly played wasn’t even made yet. The story is the guitar was rented for the movie from Norm’s Rare Guitars, Norm told them that the year was inaccurate, but they chose it anyway. Must have been a particular look they were going for. When the film was completed, the guitar went back to Norm’s Rare Guitars and was eventually sold. But to whom? No one knows.
The Guitar has a few unique features one of which is the 12th fret inlay is one solid inlay, while most 345’s have two separate inlays per fret. Rumors are that a Brazilian collector has the guitar, the problem is he has passed away and no one can confirm that it is in his collection, at least for now.
