LA PALMA, Canary Islands — A volcano on Spain’s Canary Islands that began erupting Sept. 19 now appears to be in “a phase of lower activity,” the Institute of Geosciences in Madrid said Monday. In the past week, the eruption in La Palma island’s Cumbre Vieja range displaced thousands of people and destroyed 500 buildings, according to The Associated Press.
