Health alert Dino nuggets from Walmart are at the center of a public health alert, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. (USDA FSIS)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert, but not a recall, over chicken nuggets that may have an unsafe level of lead.

The FSIS said a recall was not issued because the dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets were no longer on the market, but issued the health alert instead because they could still be in people’s freezers.

The nuggets came in a 290oz. plastic bag with “Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets” on the front.

They had a best if used by date of Feb. 10, 2027, and lot code 0416DPO1215 and establishment number P44164. Those codes are on the back of the bag.

The amount of lead found during routine sampling may be up to five times the interim reference level of 2.2 micrograms, the FSIS said.

The nuggets were produced by Dorada Foods and sold at Walmart locations nationwide.

If you have the chicken nuggets at the center of the health alert, you’re told not to eat them and either throw them away or return them to the store.
