SAN ANTONIO (December 19, 2022) — When it’s really cold, like it’s going to be this week, the San Antonio Fire Department receives an increase in fire calls due to overloaded outlets.

Be careful with how much you plug into an outlet, especially with all the decorations, and heaters! Overloading an outlet can cause a fire!

In the fun, but helpful video below, Santa Claus on a cookie break in someone’s living room when suddenly his phone dies, so he goes looking for a charge. Finding an overloaded outlet, Santa is in for a great shock as he plugs in— the audience sees Father Christmas get zapped so hard he is launched over the San Antonio skyline in true cartoon fashion. This cartoon is entertaining; however, this is no laughing matter. If you plug in too many devices, you are putting your home at risk.

Family celebrations, holiday lights and Christmas trees are hallmarks of the holiday season, but they also present increased fire risks that can quickly turn this festive time of year into a devastating one. You may have as little as two minutes (or even less) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds.

Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.
