San Antonio — 74TH ANNUAL POTEET STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL THR-SUN

Everything strawberry under sun, food, games, rides, and entertainment including a parade. Great Family fun, free parking at Festival sight where posted.

Thursday BONUS NIGHT

The festival is kicking off the festivities early with its free Carnival Night on Thursday. It’s free to get in, but $25 to get unlimited rides all night.

The carnival will have concession stands but its standard food booths (like the strawberry booths and Fiesta food vendors) won’t be open. There also won’t be entertainers.

THE PARADE

On Saturday, the festival’s parade will begin at 10 a.m. The route will stroll through the City of Poteet.

ENTERTAINMENT

On all three days, you can expect to see two magic shows, a hypnotist, a petting zoo, a dinosaur walk, and Freckles (the festival’s official mascot).

FRIDAY

The following musicians will perform Friday: David Trevino Y Los Tremendos, Texas Tone Rangers, Ram Herrera, Jay Perez and David Lee Garza

SATURDAY

On Saturday, more entertainers will perform, such as Fire on the Mountain Cloggers, El Gran Mariachi Azteca de America, The JonMikael Mrez Band and Rick Trevino.

SUNDAY

The following are performing on Sunday: Wade Bowen, Ramon Ayala, Mariachi Los Alazanes de Emmanuel Mejia, Bedouin Belly Dancers, Los Jimenez, and Rex Allen McNiel.

SAN ANTONIO BOOK 2021 Festival Will Be A Virtual, Three-Day Event FRI-SUN

For the first time ever, the San Antonio Book Festival will take place entirely online and run for three full days, April 9 through April 11. Pending the pandemic numbers in 2021, the Festival could be somewhat hybrid with select in-person, socially distanced events, which will be announced at a later date.

Cooling centers to open in San Antonio on Thursday, Friday

Texas launches website to help people schedule COVID-19 vaccines

The Texas Department of Health and Human Services has launched an online platform to help people schedule appointments for COVID-19 vaccines. People can register online and then be notified by email or text with information on when and where to get the vaccine. Registrants will need to provide personal information like a name, date of birth, address, race and ethnicity, and a password to register with Texas Public Health Vaccine Scheduler. For those without internet access or need help signing up, call 833-832-7067. The call support center will be open daily from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and will have translators available.

Texas to Open COVID-19 Vaccination to All Adults

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has opened a COVID-19 hotline for residents to ask questions about the virus. The hotline is available in English and Spanish. BCSO is offering a $2K signing bonus for new detention cadets

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is hiring — and it’s offering a $2,000 signing bonus. The office hopes the incentive will attract applicants from out of town as well. Blood donors sought as San Antonio Metro Health declares blood emergency in city.

San Antonio, South Texas in blood shortage emergency. Health officials said there is not enough blood on hand to treat trauma cases and patients who need emergency surgeries and procedures. The facilities are open during daylight hours Tuesday and Wednesday, but health officials said all blood drives have been canceled and the other donor rooms are not open. Same-day appointments and walk-in donations are being accepted. Officials said donors can call 210-731-5590 for information or to make an appointment, or they can visit SouthTexasBlood.org.
