Proof that the next generation still gets it

Josh Scott plays guitar (@joshguitar06)

Every now and then, I’ll be scrolling through my phone between songs or winding down in the evening, and something completely stops me in my tracks. That happened when I came across this clip on Youtube of a kid holding an electric guitar that looked almost too big for him, tearing into classic rock bangers.

Now, we’ve all seen our share of kids who play guitar online. Usually, they can play fast, but it sounds a little mechanical, like they memorized the fretboard without really feeling what they were playing. These clips from Josh Scott feel different.

When you watch this kid play, you don’t just hear the notes. You see him lean into the phrasing, catching the little nuances that usually take players decades to understand. I think about the stuff my own kids are into, and seeing someone so young grab onto classic rock and completely own it is hard not to love!

It’s a great reminder that iconic songs don’t have an expiration date. When tone and feel hit you, they just hit you, whether it was recorded in 1968 or played in a bedroom this morning!
