Nordheim is about 2 hours from San Antonio. Since the pandemic has started, my dad and his assistant Loys, have been delivering lunches and homework to the students of Nordheim ISD daily. They are out there everyday making sure these students have what they need during these unprecedented times. My dad and his assistant are truly unsung heroes! By the way, my dad listens to KKYX everyday and it has been his favorite station for a long as I can remember and I am 48!!
Jenny Gwendolyn Quintana I'm super amazed at my daughter, Gwendolyn. She is a third year medical student who was in clinical rotations. Because of the Covid outbreak, her rotations have been put on hold indefinitely. Instead of just sitting around, she put her Masters of Public Health degree to good use by creating a student grassroots call to action group named, "SAFER - Student Alliance for Emergency Responders". Working in partership with the Bexar County Medical Society, Gwendolyn has orchestrated donating over 100,000 N95 Masks to frontline medical responders!!!! Yes, 100,000! Plus additional PPE such as: hundreds of face shields donated by the Vietnamese community of SA, thousands of gloves, and gallons of hand sanitizer made possible with the help of Garrison Distillery. This just goes to show that one person, who acts on their idea to help, can pull a community together to do amazing things. Here's to the bright futures of all young health care professionals!

If that’s not heroic, I don't know what is!!

Gina DJ Hudson I know it may not count for anyone else but he means the world to our family!! We got married March 7,2020 right before the covid19 really started. We have a 7 year old and he wakes up every morning to go out and work. He is an essential worker. He works for a construction company . We fear everyday for his safety. As he leaves the house each day all he says is “ I’m doing this to support my family”! I just want him to know how much I love him and how much he means to me. As I’m typing this I am in tears. No only for him but for all the essential workers and the people that lost their battle to this ugly illness. Thank you in advance for taking the time to reas this .
Tony Animal Control Not many people know that some animal control departments can actually be considered first responders. Responding to animal attacks, animal cruelty or even just an animal or family pet in need. They deserve a lot more than getting told off all the time. And they're definitely not the cruel people everyone thinks they are.
Michael Shannon Crum Shannon is my wife. She is a full time uber eats driver. Her heart is not only in customer service but the over all service of her fellow human. She braves this virus to make sure that our fellow citizens stay fed. Joe Jay Vincent Pena He works for city of San Antonio police. Knows the needs of the city with a caring and understanding heart.
Tony Jones Maltsberger Road Chipotle staff The place was spotless. And despite there being no one in the restaurant, they were super-positive and excellent in every way. There was even a young lady in the dining room using a DeWalt cordless drill with a wire brush bit scrubbing the table mountings where they are attached to the floor. As a Marine and a guy working for the Army, I can tell you this place would have passed a General Inspection. Very impressive. And lets face it, the chicken bowl rules!

Theresa Personal Grocery Shoppers The independent contractors who shop for and deliver groceries through Shipt - these people are putting themselves at risk all day every day to make sure people who can’t leave their homes, get the groceries they need.

These brave, hardworking people are on the front lines, for a modest batch pay per shop that they complete and deliver. They work hard to get customers what they need, and use their own cars to make deliveries.

Many of these people do this just for the satisfaction of knowing they can help during this time - but tips are greatly appreciated!
Anissa Andrew Cervera My dad has been a UPS feeder truck driver for 30+ years and is still on the road every day during this pandemic to be a first responder in bringing America supplies and goods. He has always been my hero.
Laura Jose Rivera and all Coke drivers Jose is the Distribution Manager for the Coca Cola plant here in San Antonio. Since the start of this he has worked diligently to keep his drivers safe. Having them practice social distancing at work and to continue practicing when going to their deliveries. All the drivers work very hard to deliver not just the sodas but the bottle waters and hydrating drinks that customers are needing. I just wanted to thank Jose for caring for all his drivers and co-workers at the plant.
All these essential workers are doing their best to serve customers and they take that risk that they may get infected and trying not to infect the families at home waiting for them to return. God bless them all.
FERNANDO All IT workers. All IT workers are forgotten except when something goes wrong. In these days they are keeping people sane as well as essential services running. Maintaining the social media, work from home infrastructure, making sure news can be delivered, etc. is often forgotten.

I am not nominating myself. I am simply recognizing the industry. I work for GreatCall/Best Buy Health that sells health and safety devices. I come to work so others can perform their jobs.

Brian Samantha Nolan She is a nurse at Baptist health center in ICU she has treated multiple Covid19 patients and is full of energy creating a great work environment during this time. She is always the first to volunteer and treat the patients coming in. She has had to be quarantined while off the clock because of risk of infection which is tough because she had a new nephew born on 3/6 and can’t spend time with him or the rest of the family other than FaceTime meals and walks with her trailing a good distance behind. Also since this started she has adopted an abandoned 7 year old German Shepard and taken it into her home as a new owner. Adding to her list of community support she has been arranging delivery meals for the whole ICU staff from multiple local businesses to help restaurants maintain as best they can. She is a certain hero for our community. I’d love to sharE photos and more and seriously hope y’all select her for hero of the day!
Barbara Esteban Tijerina If it weren't for Tiremen working non stop in rain, sleet, snow, or whatever the weather may be to keep our wheels moving; no-one would be anywhere. No groceries would be delivered, no doctors or nurses would be at work to save lives and etc. Tiremen are very important to our economy and they do not get enough credit. They have dangerous jobs. Changing tires on the side of freeways when people don't obey traffic laws can be very dangerous and life threatening. We owe Tiremen our appreciation.

Katie Hospital Housekeepers Everyone is recognizing medical professionals during this pandemic, but one often overlooked group of people is the hospital housekeepers. I am an ER nurse, and I see this team working TIRELESSLY to disinfect every surface in the hospital, as well as thoroughly turn over the rooms where we treat COVID patients. They are directly in harm’s way, and always silently serve and do their part. Please don’t forget to recognize this hardworking group of essential personnel!

Leroy Larissa Martinez I’m extremely proud of my wife who’s the founder of a 501c3 nonprofit called Circle of Arms. Less then a year old with no steady funding but from the beginning of March has stepped up and filled gaps in the community by delivering essential food and hygiene items to the elderly, veterans, disabled and families with small children who have limited transportation and can’t make it to the food bank and other donation sites. She delivers all over town no matter zip code. She even delivered furniture to an elderly woman who had nothing to sleep or sit on in her apartment. She’s delivered all the way to a Pleasanton nursing home to take wish list items and encouragement cards to residents to Canyon Lake to provide essential hygiene items to Foster Youth Center. She’s soon to deplete the little funds she has raised for her organization so she started virtual bingo to have fun and be a distractor with all the CVD-19 stressors asking does donations and giving a percentage as a prize for the winner. She’s also doing peer to peer support for no charge for those who’re having increased anxiety about CVD-19! She’s awesome and I want the world to know that she’s not a big company or even a large nonprofit but she’s making a big impact!
Laurabeth Tim It’s my husband. He now is work 3 12 hour days at the airport and still is a firefighter when he’s not at work. During this time when he comes home the radio goes off and he’s off. We don’t get to see him a lot but is working hard to keep us safe.
