Released in October 1988, U2′s Rattle and Hum was a solid follow up to their massive hit album The Joshua Tree, which was released the previous year. You might recall, the album also coincided with the release of U2′s rockumentary of the same name.

U2′s 6th studio album was really a tribute to American blues rock-n-roll and the influence the music had on them. They even took the opportunity to record at the famous Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, where American music icons like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison first recorded music. The band recorded three songs in the legendary, including “Angel of Harlem," “When Loves Comes to Town,” and “Love Rescue Me.”

It was on this date (November 12, 1988) that Rattle and Hum assumed the number one position on the Billboard Album Chart. It remained there for 6 weeks and went on to sell more than 14 millions copies. The single “Desire” also went number 1. on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
