Adopt a Shelter Cat Month…And Dogs Too! ADL to Offer Cat and Kitten Adoption Specials in June
The month of June is widely recognized by animal organizations as Adopt a Shelter Cat Month and families who are considering adding a forever feline friend to their families are encouraged to visit ADL during the shelter’s Adopt a Shelter Cat Month…And Dogs Too! This Pet adoption event will be taking place every weekend in June (14-15; 21-22; and 28-29), the event will offer discounted adoption fees on Cats, Kittens, Puppies and Dogs! As part of this event, all Cats over 4 months of age will be available to adopt for just $10. If you prefer a small and cute kitten, then come and adopt any kitten under 4 months of age for only $15! There are so many cats and kittens in need of homes at ADL and we encourage the community to come and see them all for themselves. If a canine companion is what you fancy, ADL will also offer reduced adoption fees on many of the shelter’s dogs every weekend in June. Children’s Shelter hosts Bi-Monthly Foster Care Inquiry Orientations
The Children’s Shelter host bi-monthly foster care inquiry orientations for prospective foster parents and families. The inquiry orientations are free and open to the community. If you have ever been interested in learning about fostering a child, this is the first step to begin the process. The Children’s Shelter iParent SA® Teen HOPES Program Set to Launch
The Children’s Shelter, a nationally-accredited private non-profit organization will be hosting a free and public event on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Neighborhood Place (3014 Rivas St.) at 1-5PM. The event will be a launch party for their newest family strengthening program-Teen HOPES. Teen HOPES is open to teen mothers, 18 years of age and younger who delivered a child within the past 12 months. Parent educators will be available to answer any questions a parent may have about the Teen HOPES program. The event will include a raffle give-a-way every 30 minutes (items include: strollers, high chairs and other child-related gifts), free food and snacks, and much more! McNay Art Museum Presents Abstract Painting in Summer Exhibition Beauty Reigns: A Baroque Sensibility in Recent Painting
Opening June 11, Beauty Reigns: A Baroque Sensibility in Recent Painting features the work of thirteen intergenerational emerging and mid-career abstract painters, working in studios across the United States. The exhibition is organized by René Paul Barilleaux, the McNay's Chief Curator/Curator of Art after 1945, and celebrates the exoticism, exuberance, and optimism found in the artists' work. Among the shared characteristics found in this highly diverse group, in whole or part, are high-key color, layering of surface imagery, use of overall and repeated patterns, stylized motifs, fragmented representation, and a tension between melancholy and the sublime. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) invites you to become ArtSmart at Central Library. Taking place every third Thursday, now through July, ArtSmart is a four-part art appreciation and history lecture series covering prehistoric art to the Greek period. Brigham Young University alum and SAPL Library Assistant Michelle Hill, who holds a Masters in Art History, will explore major art works from each period, with opportunity for open discussion. 25th Anniversary Bike MS: Valero Ride to the River opens 2014 Registration
Registration for the 25th Anniversary Bike MS: Valero Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B opens Friday, April 4 with a special registration fee of $25 through April 11. The annual fundraising ride will be held October 11-12, and teams and individuals are encouraged to register and join the unforgettable journey. All registered cyclists are required to meet the minimum fundraising commitment of $300 prior to picking up their rider packet. The registration fee will increase on April 12 to $35. Bexar County Veterans Service Office Logo Contest
The Bexar County Veterans Service Office is looking for a new logo. The community is being asked to submit entries that best represent the values and tradition of military service as well as the services provided by the Veterans Service Office. We encourage those with artistic abilities to show their support by designing a logo that represents our County’s proud tradition of support for our nation’s veterans. “Red McCombs Toyota is honored to support this event that fosters relationship building through artistic creativity. Las Casas Foundation Premieres Camp Broadway San Antonio
Who: Children ages 10-17 who are aspiring young performers and entertainers, as well as those who enjoy the theatre and want to build their confidence. 132nd St. Louis Day Celebration in Castroville, Texas

Teens who are interested in developing their musical talents while gaining valuable experience are invited to apply to audition for the City’s award winning Take Note youth band. This ONE-DAY event is open to middle and high school students living in Bexar county and surrounding cities. We expect more than 3,000 students in attendance. This San Antonio based non-profit hosts this summit each year to enlighten youth, challenge their minds, and provide educational programs that help them become successful leaders. Miles Against Melanoma is having its inaugural fundraising event: The Miles Against Melanoma City Solve Scavenger Hunt.
