San Antonio Pools Open
Beating the heat, making memories and staying active are just a few of the advantages to visiting a Parks and Recreation Department outdoor pool during the summer swim season. 19th Annual Project Cool
Catholic Charities, in partnership with the San Antonio Fire Department, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, the United Way and the City of San Antonio, have launched the 19th Annual Project Cool. Last year, 5,237 fans were distributed to seniors to provide a low-cost and low-energy means to alleviate summer heat and prevent heat-related illness. Those wishing to contribute can donate a 20” box fan to any SAFD fire station, except FS 23 at the Airport, between June 5th and September 30th. Elderly residents in need of a fan are asked to call the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1.
SA Youth and Texas Hunger Initiative Summer Meals Program for Kids
Free Summer Meals Will be served at More Than 250 Sites in San Antonio. Youth development organization SA Youth will partner with Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative, a statewide nonprofit, to host a kickoff of a free summer meals program for kids and teens in the area. The event will help connect more area kids and teens to health and nutrition resources by raising awareness about the Summer Food Service Program; highlight the fitness, nutrition, and education programs of SA Youth; and give the community more insight into the work of the Texas Hunger Initiative. Summertime should be a stress-free time for parents and kids, full of food, friends and fun. Free Summer Meals can help. With the support of Kohl’s Department Store, the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Children's Mobile Clinic has implemented the Kohl’s Cares Immunization Program to increase immunization rates among children. The Children’s Mobile Clinic will provide no-cost vaccines via the program. These immunization efforts take place throughout the community and in the school setting; with the goal of ending vaccine-preventable diseases. All events listed will be held in front of Kohl’s Department Stores. The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio staff will administer free immunizations for Medicaid, under-insured or uninsured children, limited to the first 100 at each location. Meals on Wheels San Antonio is one of 5,000 local Meals on Wheels programs across the country working every day to protect millions of seniors from the threats of isolation and hunger – an effort made possible by millions of volunteers who help in communities just like San Antonio all across America. The H-E-B Family Film Series
Taking place at Mission Marquee Plaza during an unforgettable season of family-friendly activities. The H-E-B Family Film Series continues on July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22, September 12 and September 26 with FREE screenings of movies for the entire family. Movie-goers can enjoy complimentary popcorn, activities for the family, informational booths and give-aways. Food trucks also will be available with concessions for sale. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early (gates open at 7 p.m.) and to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Screenings will begin 15 minutes after dusk.

133rd St. Louis Day Celebration “The Homecoming for the State of Texas”

The Children’s Shelter hosts bi-monthly foster inquiry meetings for individuals and families, 23 years of age and older interested in becoming a foster family. County Celtic Association and Texas Celtic Athletic Association will present the Kerr County Celtic Festival and Third Annual Hill Country Highland Games on Saturday Aug 15, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday Aug 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hill Country Arts Foundation/Point Theater 120 Point Theater Rd, Ingram, TX. Workshops will be held in athletics, beginning bagpipe, Scottish Country Dancing, and dying. There will be lectures on a variety of subjects as well as two days of athletic competition.
