Kayli came to her mother in December wanting to do something for the homeless. Many times before she has asked her mother to help her make sandwiches and drive her around to pass them out to those that might be hungry. But this time she wanted to do something bigger. She asked if she could sell some of her own things to raise money for the homeless and thus the garage sale idea was sparked. As her mother, Connie, began planning the sale with her, they began sharing their brainstorm with friends, co-workers, neighbors and on Facebook. The donations just started coming. It seems that others wanted to be part of Kayli’s big plan. Connie said, "It’s funny that it took a 7 year old to get the adults doing something we should all be doing; it would seem that many like the idea of giving back but just needed the push. My little Kayli can be quite persuasive.” Kayli will be hosting her garage sale on March 1-2. She has donated to CAM in the past and thought this would be an excellent place to donate the profits of her sale. Dawn White, CAM Executive Director, said, “We are so humbled and honored by Kayli’s example; this donation will help CAM pay for food, hygiene items, socks, underwear and ID recovery for the homeless we serve.”
For 36 years CAM has provided crisis assistance to any individual in the San Antonio community in need. This includes food, clothing and financial assistance to avoid disconnect or homelessness.
