A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry has become an American theatrical classic. Mama dreams of moving to a decent home as she has received her deceased husbands insurance settlement; her son, a chauffeur, dreams of buying a liquor store and being his own man, while her young, liberated daughter dreams of medical school. This powerful drama is built on sacrifice, heartbreak, trust, love and mamas heroic struggle to hold the family together. The Renaissance Guild (TRG), founded in January of 2001 is a non-profit organization dedicated to the examination, preservation, and celebration of the Black experience through theatre. TRG provides educational outreach programs to the San Antonio community and surrounding areas and enhances opportunities for artistic expression for people of color. Production themes focus not only on the struggles but the everyday experiences as people in America.
